Not as rousing or fun as their first album, definitely a darker tone, but still a solid release for Big Country. Steeltown, Flame of the West and East of Eden stand out as my favorites with Tall Ships Go, Belief in the Small Man, and Where the Rose is Sown coming in /5().

Big Country came out of one of the less dominant parts of the United Kingdom with an anthemic sound and vaguely revolutionary-sounding lyrics to captivate the British listening public and at least interest Americans. Big Country continued their winning ways at home with this, its second album, which topped the charts and produced three Top 40 hits -- "East of Eden," "Where the Rose is Sown 6/

I find the sound quality of this two disc vinyl LP release terrible. It sounds like my stylus is full of lint. I must say, though, this is the only version I have heard. I can only compare it with my first release LP of Big Country's Peace in Our Time album, and that album sounds very good. Is the sound supposed to be like this?

Big Country's follow-up to The Crossing is another excellent slice of guitar-driven 80's rock that is at least as essential as its predecessor to any 80's rock collection. Stylistically, Steeltown isn't horribly dissimilar from The Crossing, and if you like one of the two records you'll almost certainly enjoy sthesanavmirelo.cielimnahoubozycimortlogtiodapho.co-tinged rock, with lots of e-bow and mandolin yet absolutely none of that.

The band is first rate, on "Steeltown" they interpret the songs with a hard rocking wall of sound similar to the later Big Country album "The Buffalo Skinners". Highly recommended, Big Country were far more than a "one hit wonder" band. "Steeltown" was the second album in a brilliant run of four consecutive albums that began with their debut album/5().
